James McCarthy was a member of influential New Zealand improvisational percussive sound art group, From Scratch from 1991 – 1996, later forming Rotaction. McCarthy’s wall drawing, made of piano wire, was the first of a series of instrument/wall drawings that he has subsequently exhibited/performed throughout New Zealand.
